Maggie took to the road again for the first time in exactly 40 years in June 2017 and has been in regular use ever since …

The last time before this that my wife Kim rode in Maggie was in 1977 when she was 20 – 40 years later and it still brought a smile to her face!

My first grandson, Hal, witnessed the final stages of the restoration and was a regular in my workshop and the cockpit.

The more recent grandson arrival Felix, also reckoned Maggie to be pretty exciting.

My mother at 96 also enjoyed a ride out and loved it!

My restoration came under serious scrutiny by some extremely knowledgable classic car people and thankfully got the thumbs up – two of the group were MG employees at Abingdon, one serving an apprenticeship when MGA’s were still in production.
2019 Update: Ray, centre shot in black jacket, great friend, fellow MGA owner and restorer, died in July after a long illness. The week before he died, a mutual friend and I got his 1956 Coupe out of a two year hibernation and gave Ray a run around the block. It was a great moment and one to cherish.

Classic v Future ClassicI was asked to do a talk on car technology to groups of 10 year old local school kids and did a comparison between a 50’s sportscar and a current BMW i8.It was great fun and I was amazed at the level of knowledge of some of the kids, although none of them, including their teachers had ever seen a car started with a starting crank handle. They liked the i8, but were fascinated by the MGA

A Good Friday run to collect my mother, now 98, for lunch. She loves it … makes me feel so young.
